Top-100 van Mark Siegersma

Beste meneer van Duijnhoven,

Al sinds jaar en dag ben ik een groot muziekliefhebber. In het jaar 2000, toen ik vijftien jaar werd, verschoof mijn muzieksmaak van vooral gabberhouse (!) naar vooral 'top-2000-muziek', om het zo maar te noemen. Toen bestudeerde ik de editie van 1993 van de Top-100 Allertijden, die bij het verzamelalbum 'Het Beste uit de Top-100 Allertijden - Editie '93' zat, een album dat bij ons thuis te vinden was. Ook ging ik luisteren naar de Eeuwige 100 op Radio 538. Ik was totaal gefascineerd, en die fascinatie voor muzieklijstjes is tot op de dag van vandaag gebleven.

Ik ging me bezighouden met het samenstellen van mijn eigen rangordes van nummers. Een lijst met honderd nummers bleek op een gegeven moment niet genoeg, tweehonderd nummers is beter. Dan doen zo veel meer goede/klassiek geworden nummers mee! Maar ook dat bleek niet genoeg. Op een gegeven moment was het aantal 777! In 2004 schakelde ik over op lijstjes met hele albums. Daar ben ik in de jaren daarna af en toe mee bezig geweest. Rond 2020 ben ik twee keren bezig geweest met een albumlijst-project, dat bijzonder ingewikkeld werd. Door een negatieve reactie van mijn omgeving op de tweede van die projecten - of een mogelijk negatieve reactie, ik weet niet zeker of ik het goed geïnterpreteerd heb - ging ik me afvragen of ik wel goed bezig was. Moet ik me meer concentreren op muzieklijstjes, of het maken van mijn eigen muziek, iets waar ik sinds 2005 ook vaak mee bezig was. Ik vroeg advies aan iemand anders in mijn omgeving, en die raadde mij aan om me meer te concentreren op zelf muziek maken, en dat ben ik dus gaan doen. De resultaten daarvan tot nu toe zijn te horen op YouTube en Soundcloud, onder de naam 'Alwart 8101985' (tenminste op YouTube). Ik heb gemengde gevoelens bij de resultaten. Er ontbreken drums en, met uitzondering van een nummer, de bas, de geluidskwaliteit is nogal 'low-fi', zullen we maar zeggen, en mijn zang werkt ook niet bepaald altijd. Maar ik vind dat ik tenminste voor de elektrische gitaar goede ideeën heb. Bovendien ga ik binnen nu en zoveel tijd met een bassist en drummer muziek opnemen in een Groningse studio. Ik hoop dat mijn nummers daar beter tot hun recht komen, met een betere geluidskwaliteit en een ritmesectie. Maar ja, de zang ...

Ondertussen heb ik toch nog een albumlijst samengesteld. De samenstelling was lastig, maar het ging een stuk sneller dan in het geval van die twee albumlijsten die ik rond 2020 probeerde te maken. Dat had in ieder geval te maken met het feit dat ik alleen maar uitging van hoe mooi/aanstekelijk ik de muziek heb gevonden in de loop der jaren. Andere criteria als 'invloed' en 'originaliteit' telde ik niet meer mee.

En hoe mooi/aanstekelijk ik muziek heb gevonden is best veranderd in de loop der jaren. In 2000 kwam de focus vooral op top-2000 muziek te liggen. In de zomer of de herfst van 2001 kwam ik met een lijst waarin, heel verrassend, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' van Queen op nummer-een stond ('Hotel California' van de Eagles stond trouwens niet zo hoog, op plaats vijfenveertig). In datzelfde jaar hield ik op school een spreekbeurt over Queen bij Engels. Maar zo'n vijf jaar later, in 2006, hield ik een spreekbeurt bij Nederlands over 'Nevermind' van Nirvana. Mijn muzieksmaak was inmiddels een stuk 'alternatiever' geworden, met dank ook aan Oor en Kink FM. En uw website, die ik in 2004 ontdekte. In een voorlopige albumlijst, in 2006 voltooid, kwam OK Computer op de eerste plaats. Nu is mijn muzieksmaak ongelooflijk breed: van klassiek tot house, en van jazz tot metal.
Nu is mijn vraag of u mijn album top-100 'aller tijden' wilt plaatsen op uw website. Ik weet dat u normaal gesproken alleen lijstjes aanneemt van mensen die professioneel met muziek bezig zijn, maar ik ben benieuwd naar uw mening over mijn lijst, en het lijkt me wel leuk om mijn lijst te zien staan tussen al die andere lijsten, op een website die ik vaak heb opgezocht, bijvoorbeeld om te kijken welke albums het het afgelopen jaar goed hebben gedaan bij die 'professionals' bij diverse muziekbladen. De lijstjes die ik op uw website heb gevonden - en op acclaimedmusic.net, waar ik terechtkwam via muzieklijstjes.nl - hebben veel invloed gehad op welke albums ik heb aangeschaft, maar het is niet zo dat ik de mening van de critici klakkeloos overneem.
De rangorde van mijn album top-100 is gebaseerd op mijn eigen luisterervaringen in de loop der jaren.
